YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN BY NE-YO
Rating: 3/5
Reviewer: Jared Orlin
Ne-Yo’s third album is an R&B-lover’s gem. It flits between upbeat, danceable hits (such as Closer and Miss Independent) and slower, more ballad-like tunes. There’s a distinct Michael Jackson (the young, pre-scandal MJ) influence in the album, both in his voice and artistic abilities. Not just for R&B fans though.
SO I RAGE BY HOLLY AND THE WOODS
Rating: 3/5
Reviewer: Claudia Pillay
This is a slick debut album from one of SA’s hottest rock bands. Lead singer Melissa Conradie’s powerful voice is a great complement to their emotive lyrics. The banging beats, hot guitar riffs and Melissa’s vocal range make for easy listening. The sound has a strong Skunk Anansie/Evanescence feel to it but manages to retain its local flavour.

Title: Energy
Artist: Keri Hilson
Description: In this superhot video the 26-year-old American R&B singer and songwriter plays a scantily clad boxer fighting with her boyfriend about relationship problems. The tough-love theme is a nice change from the usual gleaming cars and slow-moving half-naked women’s bodies seen in R&B and hip-hop videos. Keri has been writing for other artists since 2001 and releases her debut album, In a Perfect World, early next year. Check out the video at www.musicvideocast.com.
