WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
A couple move into their dream home in the wealthy Los Angeles suburb of Lakeview Terrace - only to find their neighbour is a racist who doesn’t approve of their mixed marriage.
WHO WILL ENJOY IT?
Many people who’ve had similar experiences will identify with this film and find it highly disturbing. It’s a tough reminder that racism remains with us, along with racists intent on forcing their prejudices on innocent people, often using violence.
It looks at the issue from two angles: on one hand it’s a gripping, disturbing drama that will not only shake you but also give you food for thought; on the other it’s a dramatic attack on xenophobia, racism and selfishness. Yet it never preaches but merely depicts a horrible situation.
WAIT FOR DVD?
It works equally well on the big and small screen so it doesn’t matter. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial than the artificial smile of a light-hearted romantic comedy or high-kicking musical this tough, hard-hitting drama will provide value for money. Bonuses are hunky Patrick Wilson and beautiful Kerry Washington. Highly recommended.
